Orthodontics

At Westview Dental Centre, we offer orthodontics for all ages.

Children between the ages of 7 and 14 are typical candidates for braces because their facial structures are still developing. However, increasingly more adults are accepting orthodontic treatment. In fact, one in five orthodontic patients are over the age of 21. Braces are becoming more socially acceptable among adults so now people who were not able to correct their bite in their youth can finally achieve the smile they always wanted.

Orthodontic procedures are complex processes.

A dentist will need to make a impression of the individual's teeth and perform full X-rays of the head and mouth.

Braces employ the use of wires and brackets to straighten the teeth and are supplemented by other appliances and tools to get the ideal bite.

After orthodontic appliances are placed, they need to be adjusted from time to time to ensure that they continue to move the teeth into their correct position.

People can expect to wear braces for about two years - less or more in some cases.

Because orthodontic appliances need to be adjusted from time to time to ensure they continue to move the teeth into their correct position, they can create pressure on the teeth and jaws. This mild discomfort usually subsides following each adjustment.

Retainers are used following braces to ensure that teeth remain in position.

By getting your braces at Westview Dental Centre, we can provide continuity of care by the same dental team you already know and feel comfortable with. We can ensure that your oral hygiene is adequate and that all your other dental needs are attended to during your treatment.
